AU Special Representative for Somalia Urges Youth to Seize the Opportunity to Shape the Destiny of Their Country

Mogadishu, 15 May 2016 – The Special Representative of the Chairperson of the African Union Commission (SRCC) for Somalia, Ambassador Francisco Madeira congratulates Somalia and Somali youth on the occasion of the Somali National Youth Day.

“This is a time to reflect on your contributions to the country. As young men like you did in the 50s and played a key role in the country’s journey to independence, you have today a big role to play in shaping a future of Somalia without violent extremism and terrorism. As you do so. AMISOM will remain by your side, shoulder to shoulder with you, forging a secure and enabling environment for a meaningful and sustainable development in Somalia,” emphasized Ambassador Madeira.

He urged for increased support to youth initiatives to enable Somali youth realize their potential and chart a future for themselves.

Somali National Youth Day is marked on 15 May every year to commemorate the Somali Youth League.
