Brasilia.— The existence of powerful U.S. interests behind the impeachment process launched against Brazilian President, Dilma Rousseff, was denounced by Brazilian political scientist Luiz Alberto de Vianna Moniz Bandeira, in an interview published this Thursday, June 14.
This coup attempt must be understood within an international context in which Washington is attempting to rebuild its hegemony within Latin America, so much so that it is in negotiations with the Mauricio Macri government to install two military bases in strategic regions in Argentina, he stated.
The impeachment process underway against the Brazilian President, is not an isolated incident driven solely by domestic, internal motives, stated Moniz Bandeira in an interview published on the Brazilian Workers’ Party (PT) website and reproduced on the Communist Party of Brazil’s(PCdoB) page, Vermelho.
According to the political scientist, there exists strong evidence that the international financial system - Wall Street and Washington – fed the political-institutional crisis in Brazil, aggravating the fierce class war in the country, he noted before stating that “a lot of money moved during the impeachment campaign.”
The influence of the United States is visible in the actions of Judge Sergio Moro, leading the Lava Jato anti-corruption case, a man who received training at the State Department in 2007 and the following year spent a month at Harvard Law School, where he participated in a training program, among others, noted the specialist who also highlighted that Moro was voted by Time Magazine as one of the 10 most influential men on the planet, for good reason.
In this sense, Moniz Bandeira stated that both Moro and Attorney General Rodrigo Janot’s behavior around the Lava Jato case suggests that they are responding to foreign interests.
Their anti-Brazilian objectives go beyond unsettling the government, and even include plans to dismantle the rearmament program for Brazil’s Armed Forces, he noted.
In regards to the country’s interim-government led by Michel Temer, Moniz Bandeira stated that measures he has taken to change policies implemented by Dilma Rousseff, clearly demonstrate that the impeachment process is a farce and thinly veiled coup attempt.
However, he warned that the outlook for the provisional government is bleak given its lack of popular support, the fact that it is weak, has no legitimacy and “won’t last through 2018, because it satisfies neither Greeks nor Trojans.” (PL)
