Army General Raúl Castro Ruz, President of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba, received September 29, His Excellency Dr. Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho, on an official visit to the island.
In a cordial atmosphere, the leaders discussed the ties of friendship between the two counties and reiterated their willingness to expand bilateral relations. They also addressed issues regarding the international situation.
The distinguished visitor was accompanied by the honorable Tlohang Sekhamane, minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, and Mathabo Tsepa, ambassador of the Kingdom of Lesotho to Cuba.
Participating on the Cuban side were Marcelino Medina González and Rogelio Sierra Díaz, interim minister and deputy minister of Foreign Relations, respectively.

Dr. Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili, Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Lesotho met with Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, first vice president of Cuba’s Councils of State and Ministers, on the afternoon of September 26, at the Palace of the Revolution.
The distinguished visitor was accompanied by First Lady Mathato Mosisili, and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations Tlohang Sekhamane, among others. Meanwhile, participating on the Cuban side were Ileana Núñez Mordoche, deputy minister of Foreign Trade and Investment, as well as other Foreign Ministry representatives.
Before hand, the distinguished guest – accompanied by Ana Teresita González Fraga, Cuban deputy minister of Foreign Affairs – paid tribute to the island’s national hero José Martí, laying a floral wreath at the Memorial erected in his honor in Havana’s Plaza de la Revolución. While touring the facility, the Prime Minister and his delegation received information on the life and work of Martí.
During his stay on the island, through September 29, Dr. Pakalitha Bethuel Mosisili will meet with other Cuban government officials and visit sites of cultural and historical interest.
On arrival in Cuba, the Prime Minister expressed his desire to renew cooperation efforts in various sectors, including education and health.
He likewise highlighted the importance of his visit toward strengthening bilateral ties between the two countries, maintained over many years. Official relations between Havana and Maseru were established in 1979 on the basis of cooperation and solidarity. Today, Cuban doctors offer services in the Kingdom of Lesotho, while youth from that country are studying to become health specialists in Cuba.
