President El-Sisi called President Putin to express his condolences following the Monday assassination in Ankara of Russia's ambassador to Turkey Andre Karlov

Russian President Vladimir Putin told his Egyptian counterpart Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi that Russian flights to Egypt will soon resume during a telephone call on Wednesday, according to a statement posted on the Kremlin website.

According to the Kremlin statement, President El-Sisi called President Putin to express his condolences following the Monday assassination in Ankara of Russia's ambassador to Turkey Andre Karlov.

The two leaders also discussed Egyptian-Russian bilateral relations, including the “results of the joint work between Russian and Egyptian aviation security experts and intelligence representatives” regarding the resumption of flights between Egypt and Russia.

Russia suspended flights to and from Egypt last year shortly after an Airbus A321 plane en route to St Petersburg crashed in Sinai after taking off from Sharm El-Sheikh, killing all 224 people aboard.
