Police Raid Former Nigerian First Lady Patience Jonathan’s Home in Abuja

Abuja—The Police in Abuja, yesterday, raided a Maitama property believed to be owned by former First Lady, Mrs. Patience Jonathan.
Eye witness accounts said policemen numbering about 20, stormed the house located on Igbeti Rock Street and forcibly gained entry into the house after overpowering the single security man keeping guard over the house.
Mrs. Jonathan was not in the house at the time and it could not be confirmed, as at press time, yesterday, if she lives in the house. The policemen on arrival were said to have made enquiries concerning a certain Justice Ahmed, but were informed that no such person lived in the house.
According to sources, the police forced themselves into all the rooms in the house and searched through all the cupboards, wardrobes and fittings in the house. The police who did not state their mission, were said to have left about six hours later with an envelope whose contents were not known.
The eyewitness said that the raid was about the third time the property had been visited by security agencies following earlier raids by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA.
When Vanguard contacted the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Don Awunah, last night for comments on the development, he did not pick his call. A text message on the issue had not been replied as at press time. ASP Anjuguri Manza, Public Relations Officer, Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command, said the command was not aware of the development.

Unidentified security operatives invade Patience Jonathan’s house

Some unidentified security operatives, Wednesday, invaded one of the homes of the Ex-First Lady, Patience Jonathan and carted away some valuables.
In the video footage, the security operatives are seen driving away in two white Hilux vans and a white bus after the raid at the Abuja house. The reason for the raid is not fully available as at press time but speculations indicate it could not be unconnected with alleged embezzlement of public funds while the former First Lady was in office.
However, lawyer to the Ex-first lady, Barrister Charles Ogboli, when contacted by some newsmen, confirmed the incidence, saying: “Actually, it wasn’t the EFCC that invaded the property of Dame Jonathan today, we have had issues of invasion last year by officials of NDLEA, EFCC”
“When I met with the officers who invaded the residence today, one of them who was on uniform said they are from a special unit acting on a directive from the Inspector General of Police, while another one who was on mufti claimed that he his from the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF)”
“They said they wanted to search the property and told me to bear a witness to their operations, but I insisted I wasn’t entering the premise, they broke the door, went in and took about three cheque books and six company seals.”
