Corbyn Slams May For Indulging Trump

JEREMY Corbyn slammed Theresa May yesterday for her failure to condemn Donald Trump’s travel ban.
The Labour leader asked Ms May during Prime Minister’s Questions whether she had been known in advance of the US president’s plans to deny entry to refugees and citizens of seven Muslim-majority countries.
The Prime Minister flatly denied that she had been informed that the ban would target refugees before it was brought in — or that it could affect Britons.
Grilled by Mr Corbyn whether she had tried to stop Mr Trump from imposing the racist ban, Ms May dodged the issue, responding that Mr Trump had laid out the plans in his election campaign, so they were widely known.
“The question is how you respond,” Ms May said, sneering that the job of government is “not to take to the streets in protest.”
At last week’s PMQs, she told the Commons that she was “not afraid to speak frankly to the president of the United States.”
Mr Corbyn demanded that Britain uphold the 1951 Refugee Convention, which commits Britain, the US and 142 other countries to accept refugees, regardless of their race, religion or country of origin.
Previously, the Labour leader had written to Ms May warning that the convention is undermined by Mr Trump’s policy.
Ms May insisted that British citizens would not be affected by the restrictions, and said the government would offer assurance to EU nationals in a white paper being published today.
Labour MP Jonathan Reynolds joked that Ms May had already “jump[ed] on a plane” to “hold [Trump’s] hand.”
Mr Corbyn pointed out “President Trump has torn up international agreements on refugees. He’s threatened to dump international agreements on climate change. He’s praised the use of torture. He’s incited hatred against Muslims. He’s attacked women’s rights.
“Just what more does President Trump have to do before the Prime Minister will listen to the 1.8 million people who have already called for his state visit invitation to be withdrawn?”
