The Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Francis Alimikhena yesterday commended the economic recovery plans of Gov. Godwin Obaseki of Edo State just as he urged him to remain focused in his effort to build on the developmental legacy of his predecessor Adams Oshiomhole.

The Senator who represents Edo North Senatorial district in a statement issued by his media assistant, Ben Atu, and made available to newsmen in Benin City, commended Obaseki for unveiling a new economic map for the state and also for introducing what he called politics of development of the State.

Meanwhile the governor, who, on Saturday, celebrated his birthday, has corrected public belief on his age, revealing that he was not 58 years old as earlier believed, but 60 years old.

This was revealed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr John Mayaki, who explained that the governor was born on July 1, 1957, and was therefore 60 years of age.

The senator urged him not to be distracted by praise singers or critics who are bent on faulting his actions or decisions adding that Oshiomhole has laid a leadership benchmark for political office holders in Nigeria.

“Since inauguration as the Gov. Obaseki has displayed dexterity and passion by involving opposition party members, traditional institutions, and Students.

“Also, traders, Non Governmental Organisation and critical stakeholders have all been carried along to collectively think of a way forward for the State.

“The action of the governor in this regard has fostered greater unity and confidence among the people.

“It is obvious that the robustness of the various critical stakeholders meeting has started yielding strategic development across the state.”

Alimikhena maintained that Obaseki has proved that he is no neophyte in politics, but an integral part of the Oshiomhole’s administration, with clear understanding of the needs of the people.

According to Mayaki, “The governor found that many people believed him to be 58 years old and while he is appreciative of the good wishes and sincere felicitations that have been accorded to him, he also wants to ensure that people do not quote him at that age and thereby distorting history.”

It would be recalled that Governor Obaseki had earlier advised against publication of birthday advertisements, urging friends and well-wishers to donate to WeCare Trust, a charity organisation.
