FM Spokesman Warns Against US Sanctions and Military Threat
US adoption of an independent sanctions act against sovereign states is a criminal act of running counter to the UN Charter and international law and applying its domestic law to international relations, a DPRK Foreign Ministry spokesman told KCNA on August 3.

Such statement came after US President Trump signed on August 2 the "Countering America's Adversaries through Sanctions Act" approved by Congress in a latest move to impose additional sanctions on the DPRK, Russia and Iran.

The DPRK strongly condemns and rejects the so-called “independent sanctions”, and all countries in the world also need to think more about the outrageous and illegitimate behaviour of the US, the spokesman said.

The countries which follow the US sanctions move instead of being critical of them cannot be seen otherwise than those that add fuel to the tension on the Korean peninsula, he added.

And he warned that the US should deliberate on how to ensure the security of its mainland, rather than wasting its energy on such a hopeless pursuit.

On the same day, the spokesman accused the US of conducting a missile-firing drill against the DPRK and increasing military threat to it as part of its military counteraction to the latter’s second ICBM test fire. And he also denounced the US announcement that it would concentrate its advanced strategic assets on and around the Korean peninsula, in an attempt to attack the DPRK militarily.

The DPRK’s second ICBM test fire serves as a serious warning to the US that is speaking about military pressure and harsh sanctions, he said, adding that if the US clings to the nuclear club despite the DPRK’s repeated warnings, it will get a bitter taste of the nuclear arms the DPRK has shown to date.
