CIENFUEGOS.– A total of 317 works to benefit the residents of Cienfuegos will be inaugurated in the lead up to commemorations to mark the 60th anniversary of the armed popular uprising in this city on September 5, 1957.

The program, which has seen works unveiled on important dates throughout this year, including May Day, July 26 and August 13, will conclude with the inauguration of the remaining works from August 31 through September 2.

Among the new works are the School of Physical Education Teachers (long wished for in this territory) and nine other academic centers; together with the Historic Naval Museum, the Provincial Bus Terminal, the Aida Conde Theater, grocery stores, restaurants, motels, pharmacies, opticians, polyclinics, local parks with exercise equipment and recreational centers belonging to the province’s eight municipalities.

The inauguration of a brand new Youth Computing Club in Escambray stands out among such actions; in addition to the general restoration of the Jorge Agostini Provincial Sports Initiation School; the comprehensive works across sugar producing communities; and new roads, banks and street lighting throughout the province.

The opening of hard currency stores at remote sites distant from large towns, the installation of the Yaguaramas solar park – the largest in the territory – and the Cantarrana diesel park, are also part of the works to benefit the territory in the industrial, economic and social spheres.

General maintenance, repairs and painting of the facades of different buildings have also met with the approval of the population, in addition to capital investments in 20 primary and secondary schools, an urban pre-university institute, as well as in four pre-school day care centers.
