YCLSA Statement on the Passing of the Mother of the Nation Mama Winnie Nomzamo Madikizela Mandela

The Young Communist League of South Africa (YCLSA) would like to join the people of the world and South Africa in mourning the mother of the Nation and freedom fighter. We sadly lower our red flag to salute Comrade Winnie Madikizela Mandela an astute fearless soldier for the liberation of the African poor majority and women in particular. We convey our revolutionary heartfelt condolences to the Madikizela and the Mandela families on this great loss and we agree that the movement as a whole has lost a great woman and a soldier for radical struggles of the emancipation of the downtrodden.
Comrade Winnie will never be forgotten by the people of South Africa, she struggled with them and led from the front. She believed that the revolution is about the masses and she rooted herself among the people. She is undoubtedly our hero who the apartheid regime failed to break, she survived all its atrocities to live in a democratic South Africa. Because she understood that our people must be totally emancipated, she still stood by the poor and stayed with them in the township responding to people's calls whenever a need arose till her death.
We will always remember the support she continuously gave to different generations of student leaders. Comrade Winnie loved young people and stood by the youth at all material times. She understood that young people must always raise their views sharply and must never fear to make mistakes. She was a friend of the youth and she taught us perseverance and loyalty to the movement. She believed in the struggle for free quality education and we will ensure that its implementation does not leave out needy young people because of limited space. The YCLSA will continue to call for the expansion of infrastructure in higher education and making TVET Colleges institutions of first choice for skills development.
Mama Winnie stood by women all the time and was a woman of her own views. From her, we are inspired to continue being critical without fear or favor. She believed in the liberation of women and she despised patriarchy. Our movement must critically address gender inequality and women emancipation in its ranks. Women must never be made to feel like second class members in their own organization because Mama Winnie fought against such. We thank her for her contribution to the liberation of our people and ourselves like Mama Winnie, Dora Tamana and many other great giants recorded in our history, we echo Lenin's words and say everything for the revolution and nothing against it.
The struggle against capitalism continues and now more than ever, socialism in our lifetime. Aluta continua!
