NEHAWU Turns 31 and Still Going Strong
27 June 2018

This very important milestone in the history of this giant public sector union should be celebrated because throughout the 31 years of its existence the union of Bheki Mkhize and Yure Mdyogolo have registered fundamental gains in bettering working conditions of our members and workers in general.

Our tangible and consistent fight to transform the public sector is there for all to see. Our internationalist character has been recognised by workers and progressive forces around the world including the Communist Party of Cuba and the Cuban government in particular. The national union will continue to pledge solidarity with oppressed people all over the world and work hand in glove with the World Federation of Trade Unions [WFTU] in fighting the capitalist onslaught and exploitation of workers by the owners of the means of production.

The national union shall continue to work extra hard in defending its federation, The Congress of South African Trade Unions [COSATU], and play an active role in ensuring that all workers of this country are united and organised under it. To us as NEHAWU, unity of workers remains sacrosanct in driving a concerted struggle to dismantling the tight grip of the capitalist class and the socialisation of the commanding heights of the economy.

As we celebrate this important milestone NEHAWU is invigorated to sharpen its strategy and tactics to continue waging a relentless war against privatisation, outsourcing, agencification, and the scourge of corruption and graft. NEHAWU will continue to play an active role in transforming the public sector capable of prioritising service delivery through its public service delivery campaign across the state and its apparatus.

The gains and achievements registered by this giant red public sector union should inspire hope in members and workers that they have a fighting and campaigning union which at all material times champion their interests and fight unwaveringly against slave wages including inhumane working conditions. We remain very proud of our achievements in the last 30 years and inspired to sustain the fight against the capitalist assaults in defence of our members and workers in general.

Long Live NEHAWU!!! Happy Birthday NEHAWU! Happy Birthday!
