Baton Rouge African American Museum Reopened in Honor of Baton Rouge Icon

BATON ROUGE, LA (LOCAL 33)(FOX 44) – The son of Sadie Roberts-Joseph’s son, Jason Roberts, is reopening the Baton Rouge African American museum for three days each week.
The decision to open the museum was a difficult one. Roberts says it took months before he could walk inside the building without breaking down.
“I guess her spirit overcame me and I had to do… as she would say ‘there’s no time for being sad we got work to do.’ So I called myself and opened those doors,” Roberts said.
But now that it’s actually open, Roberts and the museum’s caretaker Chad George, are contemplating revamping it and even moving the location.
Before Joseph died, she wanted to first, change the name of the museum from “The Now and Then Museum” to “The Baton Rouge African American Museum”, which she did, but she also wanted the museum to expand.
But right now, Roberts and George are just happy to have it open.
” We’ve both seen signs,” George said. “I know that’s Ms. Sadie.”
The public will be able to visit on Monday’s, Wednesdays, and Fridays. You can donate to the museum here.
