AU Urges Domestic, International Partners to Help Tackle Ebola

The African Union (AU) has called on African and international partners to exert concerted efforts in the fight against the Ebola virus epidemic as the death toll from the ongoing Ebola virus outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) had climbed to 2,193.
The Africa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), a specialized agency of the AU Commission, in its latest periodic report issued on late Friday on the status of the Ebola virus outbreak in DRC announced that the total number of people who died due to the infectious disease has climbed to the number as of November 10.
The stated number also registered additional 43 new human causalities from the 2,150 deaths that were reported as of October 13, according to Africa CDC’s latest update issued on late Friday.
The Africa CDC also disclosed that a total of 3,287 Ebola cases were reported as of November 10, registering 67 new Ebola virus cases from the 3,220 that were reported as of October 13.
The number of people recovered from the deadly virus increased from 1,033 people up until October 13 to 1,067 as of early this week, in which the overall Ebola fatality ratio has remained constant at 67 percent, it was noted.
Amid the urgent need to control the spread of the Ebola virus from the continent, the 55-member pan African bloc on Saturday called on African and international partners to exert concerted efforts against the deadly virus.
Speaking to Xinhua on Saturday, the AU Commissioner for Social Affairs, Amira Elfadil, revealed that the AU will be convening an event, dubbed “Forum on Ebola,” on the December 2 to solicit resources for the implementation of an action plan against the epidemic on the African continent.
