DPRK General Education Put on a More Scientific Basis
The general education sector has made remarkable progress in the efforts to build a socialist educational power.

“Primary and secondary educational institutions have actively created excellent teaching methods by introducing modern educational science and technology in line with the modern trend of educational development and they are generalized throughout the country, thereby substantially enhancing the quality of education,” said Kim Won Hui, deputy director of the general education bureau of the Education Commission.

Electronic teaching plans have been worked out for curriculums at primary schools and junior and senior middle schools, with the result that teachers’ preparations for and contents of teaching have been put on an IT footing.

Teaching support programs have been developed according to school types in order to informatize and visualize the means and environment of education and make them virtual and intelligent at a high level.

Besides, more than 130 model lessons have been created for making students active learners and searchers by using educational means and methods conducive to developing their intellectual faculties and they are on general education homepage Jidokche, contributing to improving teaching methods at all schools including those in rural and mountainous areas.

According to Kim Won Hui, Moranbong Middle School No. 1 developed e-textbooks of over 20 subjects equivalent to over 3 000 hours of class, winning growing popularity across the country.

Meanwhile, East Pyongyang Middle School No. 1 created a STEM teaching method in an original way by organically combining teaching contents and methods of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, thus improving students’ creative thinking, analytical and synthesizing and systematizing capabilities.

Pyongyang Foreign Languages School created favourable study environment by setting up English, Russian, Chinese and other foreign language study sections in a practical way in good combination with teaching contents of all subjects by using spaces of school buildings like corridor and hall and encourage students to use them freely.

“Students understand principles and develop the ability to correctly express them in foreign languages as they carry out dozens of kinds of experiments at foreign language study halls with movable visual aids showing various scientific principles,” said Pak Myong Sim, rector of the school.

Many other excellent teaching methods incorporating modern educational science and technology have also been developed including VR and AR technologies and hologram display technology.
