The need to move from diagnosis of problems to implementation of actions to improve the quality of radio and television programming characterized the meeting held by President Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez with directors and creators of the Union of Cuban Writers and Artists, as part of the agenda for monitoring and updating agreements reached at the organization’s Ninth Congress.

Díaz-Canel agreed with proposals directed toward advancing the application of science in the creation and distribution of audiovisual and radio productions, to gain agility and efficiency in these processes and, in particular, to the multimedia integration of results.

He insisted that current possibilities for promoting digital platforms and social networks should be maximized, which would result in a greater impact on younger audiences.

UNEAC leaders not only presented a summary of problems and concerns members of the organization expressed in the Ninth Congress regarding the reflection of culture in mass media, but also how standing committees focused on the issue, art form associations, and provincial committees have made progress in formulating proposals and identifying solutions.

The reactivation of the joint task force of the Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Institute of Radio and Television (ICRT), in which UNEAC also participates, was an essential step forward to improve coordination and analysis of the creative application of cultural policy in the media. Agreed-upon projects should lead to the production of higher quality video clips and the revival of spaces dedicated to theatre, drama and other artistic expressions.

Participating in the meeting were some fifty creators from the media, journalists and critics, members of UNEAC’s Association of Film, Radio and Television National Council, and representatives of cultural institutions, along with Victor Gaute, member of the Party Central Committee Secretariat and head of its Ideological Department; Alpidio Alonso, Minister of Culture; Luis Morlote, UNEAC president; and Alfonso Noya, president of the ICRT.
