"The Ministry of Foreign Affairs opened its arms to the new diplomats of the people, who they proudly represented. It has been said many times that this institution was not founded by career diplomats, but by diplomats on the run, those men and women, most of them very young, had the best of diplomas: that of revolutionaries, patriots, true to Martí and Fidel," commented Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez, President of the Republic, speaking at the commemoration for the 60th anniversary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Minrex), recalling the beginning of the ministry. He added that the institution is the Revolution’s first battle trench abroad, and has played an exemplary role in defending our international policy.

Also attending the event that paid tribute to the martyrs of revolutionary diplomacy were José Ramón Machado Ventura, second secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee; Political Bureau Esteban members Lazo Hernández, president of the National Assembly of People's Power; and Bruno Rodríguez, minister of Foreign Affairs, as well as other members of the Council of Ministers.
