Jordanian security forces have reportedly prevented hundreds of protesters from reaching the Jordan-Israel border, firing heavy teargas canisters at protesters.

As Arabs and Muslims are protesting throughout the Middle East, thousands of Jordanians rushed to the border area, in rage over the deadly bombardment of Israel, in the besieged Gaza Strip, and the killing of over 1,500 civilians.

To reach the border, some of the protesters took different roots to avoid the many security checkpoints erected by the Jordanian army and security.

Jordan has a 238-kilometer border with Israel and two different crossings.

Jordan’s Interior Ministry had earlier declared that no demonstrations in the Jordan Valley and border region would be allowed. In various areas, Jordanian security clashed with protesters, firing teargas at the crowds.
