“Even these numbers cannot compel certain political forces in the West to come to their senses and realize what is going on,” the diplomat said.

“Certain political forces in the West have proven incapable of producing a UN Security Council (UNSC) resolution calling for a ceasefire and settlement to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict,” the Russian TASS news agency reported, citing comments by Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova.

Zakharova said that the failure of the UN continues despite the fact that thousands of Palestinian children have been slaughtered in the Gaza Strip.

In her comments, made in a Sputnik Radio broadcast on UNICEF data, which confirmed that over 2,300 Palestinian children have been killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of the war, Zakharova noted the urgent need to approve a UNSC resolution on the matter, TASS reported.

“This is the most obvious and rather simple thing to do in this situation: simply to produce a statement, a resolution, a document with a unified call for a ceasefire, settling the situation and so on,” she said.

“Even these numbers cannot compel certain political forces in the West to come to their senses and realize what is going on,” the diplomat said.

The US, alone with its western allies have blocked all attempts to allow for a UNSC resolution that condemns the targeting of civilians and demand an immediate ceasefire for humanitarian reasons.

According to UNICEF, more than 2,300 children have died and over 5,300 sustained wounds in the Gaza Strip during the 19-days war.

Israel occupies Palestinian territories since 1967. It has imposed a siege on the Gaza Strip for nearly 17 years and has been increasing its illegal settlement constructions in the West Bank.

UN envoys have reported that Israeli violence against Palestinians in the West Bank in the last two years is unprecedented for nearly two decades.

According to the statement by the UNICEF, more than 400 children are being killed or wounded daily in incessant Israeli attacks on the besieged enclave.
