In a small victory for Elder Aaron Ibn Pori Pitts and the Black community generally, Yousef Marzouk, the owner of the Epicurus Restaurant on West Warren near Cass was convicted today in 36th District Court by Judge Paula Humphrey of assault and battery.
Marzouk attacked Ibn on February 28th of this year went he went into the restaurant and attempted to use the restroom.
The attack led to weeks of protests at the restaurant and calls by a wide array of community leaders and activist for justice.
This victory should send a clear message to those doing business in our community that we will not tolerate disrespect and abuse.
Respect,
Malik Yakini
