The Malcolm X Grassroots Movement (MXGM) applauds the historic contributions of Cuban Revolutionary leader Fidel Castro Ruz. We stand firm in support of the new leadership of the Cuban revolution in its quest to deepen democracy, increase production, and resist US imperialist aggression. Cuba has been a steadfast supporter of Afrikan liberation struggles in Afrika and in the United States empire and deserves the support of Afrikan people all around the world against those who seek to turn Cuba back into a playground for the rich.
Under Fidel’s exemplary leadership Cuba consistently demonstrated the true meaning of solidarity in support of the Afrikan revolution. This solidarity is best exemplified in Angola, where Cuba stood toe to toe with the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola or MPLA from 1975 – 1988, to deliver several crushing defeats to the armies of apartheid South Africa and the CIA backed forces of white supremacy and imperialist reaction that lead to the liberation of Namibia, the end of counterrevolutionary terror in Mozambique and Botswana, and the end of white minority rule in Azania (South Africa).
Fidel’s solidarity with the Black Liberation movement in the US empire, the very belly of the beast, has been no less exemplary. From his historic stay in Harlem in 1960 at the Theresa Hotel, his meeting with Brother Malcolm, and to his rallies in the Harlem community in 1960 and a return trip in the 1995, Fidel has been a comrade to Black Liberation struggle in word and deed. Cuba has allowed many important freedom fighters in our struggle to call Cuba home, including Robert F. Williams, Assata Shakur, Huey Newton and Nehanda Abiodun to name a few. Cuba has never backed away from its commitments to this struggle and recognized the rights of Afrikan people to be self-determining.
Fidel and the Cuban revolution have lasted close to 50 years against US imperialism and its ceaseless attempts to kill him, roll back the revolution, and the never ending sabotage of the Cuban economy. Cuba through the leadership of Fidel Castro has shown itself to be a friend, ally and inspiration to all oppressed nations throughout the World. It is our hope that the new revolutionary leadership continues to blaze the trail laid down by Comrade Fidel. The Struggle Continues. Long Live Fidel! Long Live the Cuban Revolution!
