U.S. Whips Up War Fever against Iran with Phony Report

Under the cover of a bogus report by a United Nations agency, the U.S. and its allies are laying the groundwork for a military attack on Iran. In order to counter this danger to humanity, the International Action Center would like to expose the perfidious role of the agency in question, the International Atomic Energy Agency. The IAEA is supposed to be a neutral investigator of nuclear development around the world. Instead, it has turned into a tool for imperialist aggression.

The IAEA report, released on Nov. 8, claims it shows that "Iran has carried out activities relevant to the development of a nuclear device." (IAEA.org) The New York Times, a convinced enemy of the Iranian government claims the document presents "new evidence" and says the report constitutes "the harshest judgment that the has ever issued" with regards to the Iranian nuclear program. (Nov. 9)

Yukiya Amano, the current IAEA director, took over as the head of the UN agency from Mohamed ElBaradei, an Egyptian national, in 2009. Secret documents released by the Wikileaks organization reveal that U.S. diplomats described Amano as "director general of all states, but in agreement with us." (The Guardian, Nov. 30, 2010)

A fraudulent document from a biased agency
A close look at the latest IAEA report reveals that it presents no new evidence. Rather it is a biased rehash of old charges with very little factual support.

Robert Kelly, a nuclear scientist and a former director and inspector for the IAEA, had this to say of the report: "It's very thin, I thought there would be a lot more there," said Kelley about the most recent report. "It's certainly old news; it's really quite stunning how little new information is in there."(Christian Science Monitor, Nov. 9)

Iran's government denied all the charges. In a speech to thousands Shahr-e-Kord in central Iran, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said, "This nation won't retreat one iota from the path it is going," adding, "Why are you ruining the prestige of the (U.N. nuclear) agency for absurd U.S. claims?" (AP, Nov 9)

Washington and its allies are using the IAEA document to threaten all-out war. Weeks before the report was released, the U.S. and Israel were already threatening a military strike as a direct response to the supposedly secret document.

The United States possesses over 10,000 nuclear weapons; Israel has an estimated 300. Iran has none. The U.S. remains the only country in the world that has used nuclear weapons in a war. Both the U.S. and Israel have a long history of invading and occupying other countries. Iran has no such record.

Thus it is logically preposterous to use such a report as a pretext for aggression against Iran, just as it was preposterous to use non-existent "weapons of mass destruction" as a pretext to invade Iraq. But that's exactly what Washington did. And both Israel and the U.S. are preparing for such a war with Iran now.

Beginning in late October, Israeli media began widely speculating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was heavily lobbying for military strikes against Iran's nuclear sites. On Nov.2, Israel test-fired a missile said to be capable of carrying a nuclear warhead and reaching Iranian territory.

Britain and the U.S. reportedly stepped up contingency planning for potential military action against Iran.

In addition to the Big Lie about Iranian nuclear weapons, Washington made allegations of a "Iranian plot" to assassinate the Saudi ambassador to the United States, based on the statements of a highly questionable U.S. informant. Meanwhile, the Pentagon was hard at work strengthening its military alliance with Persian Gulf states, which together with U.S.-occupied Iraq and Afghanistan, form a military semi-circle around Iran.

To resist the efforts of U.S. imperialism and Zionism to foment war with Iran, the International Action Center condemns the U.S. propaganda aimed at providing pretexts for aggression. We hope that people around the world will join us in this effort.
