The ANC statement on the recent by-elections
1 February 2013
The African National Congress is thrilled with its performance in the last by-elections outcome in the Western Cape province. The ANC managed to win back the ward it lost to the DA in Witzenberg municipality that it lost during the last local government elections. We are pleased that the margins the ANC obtained are convincing and are reflection that people in the Western Cape are becoming disillusioned with the DA as a result of the its inability to deliver services.
Hellen Zille has been exposed as untrustworthy and a habitual liar. Her political gimmicks have not escaped the attention of the electorate. This is an indication of other loses Hellen Zille and DA will suffer going forward.
The ANC is working hard to regain the wards that were lost to opposition during the 2011 local government elections and also win wards that were previously held by the opposition. The ANC remains the only organisation that has a vision and clear policies to improve the quality of life of all South Africans. Having secured this ward, the ANC will work with other parties to accelerate service delivery in Witzenberg.
We want to thank the people of Witzenberg for the confidence they have shown to the ANC. They will not be disappointed for having made the right choice by putting the ANC first. This and other recent successes are just a beginning of the process of the ANC intensifying its role of leading society. The ANC will intensify its effort to engage all constituencies with a view to accelerate service delivery and transformation.
