Provincial Working Committee Statement of the South African Communist Party in the Eastern Cape

SACP Eastern Cape PWC statement

28 January 2013

The South African Communist Party (SACP) in the Eastern Cape Province held a successful ordinary Provincial Working Committee (PWC) on the 26-27 January 2013 at Umtata. The meeting was held to take stalk of the political and ideological work done and develops an SACP program of action for 2013.The meeting was preceded by servicing of structures in our five (05) sub-districts in O.R. Tambo district.

The PWC observed a moment of silence for the passing of the veteran of our congress movement Cde Moses Twebe; we would like to send our heartfelt condolences to his family and the movement at large.

The meeting crafted a draft program of action for 2013 which is the year of the district as has been declared by the Central Committee of our party. The draft program of action will be tabled in the next SACP PEC meeting in February.

We would like to condemn the invasion of Mali by imperialistFrance; this is no intervention but imperialist invasions for selfish capitalist accumulation. In our minds the brutal invasion of Libya and the brutal killing of Colonel Gaddafiand the people of Libya are still fresh. This is a desperate attempt by the market forces to rescue capitalist mode of production from its structural crises.

The PWC expressed its anger on the distasteful advertisement by the First national Bank where our leadership and government are insulted. We view this as no advertisement but an agitation of regime change in favor of the DA led opposition and FNB declaring itself as the political party. It is important for every bourgeoisie institution to understand that they have a role to play in changing the socio-economic conditions of the South African people. It is in this context that we condemn the blame game by FNB and wish to caution them that they should also play a role in this front instead of plunging the workers and the poor in more debt. We view this as no advert but a declaration of war against our majoritarian character of our democracy and the progressive forces.

The SACP notes and welcomes the outcomes of the disciplinary processes of African National Congress (ANC)taken against its deployees who have collaborated with the opposition to defy the positions and decisions of ANC inMbhashe and Mnquma local municipalities. We welcome this as basis of installing ANC dignity in the province andbringing stability in theses spheres of governance. We are calling upon the ANC to act in the same spirit upon those who did the same in other municipalities like King SabathaDalindyebo where ANC councillors voted with the opposition; Nelson Mandela Metropolitan Municipality where ANC councillors signed a petition with the DA led oppositionand Buffalo City Metropolitan Municipality. For these treason acts are at the detriment of service delivery. The ANC must put an end to this foreign behavior of its deployees working with the opposition as such members are no ANC cadres.

The SACP once again wishes to register its deepest concern on the state of our provincial government, for what we have in the provincial government does not show prospects of responding to the needs of the Eastern Cape populace. The high levels of corruption in various departments compromise the service delivery.

We are calling upon the Eastern Cape Premier, Hon NoxoloKiwiet not to use the upcoming State Of the Province Address (SOPA) as an event but as an important platform to pave a way forward in many of the challenges we are faced with; the challenges of unemployment, poverty, inequality etc. We are once again calling for the massive infrastructure roll out as was promised in the State of Nation Address (SONA) by the president of our country. This infrastructure rollout must not be used as a way of enriching few tenderpreneurs but to create jobs and curb job losses and for skills development.

The SACP in the Eastern Cape wishes the South African National team, Bafana Bafana success in the Orange African Cup of Nations; we trust our national pride Bafana Bafana will do us proud.

Issued by the SACP Eastern Cape.
