The Comesa observer mission today urged the MDC-T leader, Mr Morgan Tsvangirai to accept defeat and seek recourse in courts if he has any grievances concerning elections.

Comesa head of Observer Mission Ambassador Bethuel Kiplagat advised political parties to pursue legally established channels to resolve any disputes that may arise relating to the outcome of these elections.

“The mission calls upon all stakeholders to engage in fine tuning and improving all aspects of the electoral process,” he said.

Ambassador Kiplagat said Zimbabweans should withhold the prevailing peace even after the announcement of the results.

“The mission highly commends Zimbabweans for their peaceful conduct of the July 31 harmonised elections. This will go a long way in contributing to the consolidation of democracy in Zimbabwe.

“As the results are being progressively released, the mission encourages all citizens of Zimbabwe to continue to maintain their commendable disposition and to wait for the final announcement of results, “he said.

The mission said it was satisfied with the general atmosphere of peace that characterised the elections a departure from the environment of 2008 elections.

Comesa’s endorsement comes after the AU, ECF-Sadc and Sadc observer missions called the poll free, fair and credible.
