Egypt court to review case against ElBaradei

Former vice president Mohamed ElBaradei may face court proceedings in a civil case against him for 'breaching national trust'
The Nasr City misdemeanour court has decided that on 19 September it will consider the case filed against former vice president for international relations Mohamed ElBaradei, who resigned on Wednesday following a crackdown by security forces to disperse two protest camps by pro-Morsi supporters.
The case, filed by Dr. SayedAteeq, head of the Criminal Law Department at Helwan University's Faculty of Law, charges ElBaradei with breach of "national trust".
According to Ateeq, ElBaradei had not presented to the government, the presidency or the revolutionary forces any other alternatives to dispersing the sit-ins, as well as disregarded the "terrorist crimes" committed by the Muslim Brotherhood there.
Ateeq added that ElBaradei's resignation created an impression to the global community that the Egyptian government used excessive force in dispersing the sit-ins.
"ElBaradei was not selected as vice president for his person, but as a representative of the National Salvation Front and revolutionary forces," and that he had resigned without consulting with those he represented, Ateeq said.
Mohamed ElBaradei is currently in Austria with his family.
