Lebanese Death Toll Rises in Bombing of South Beirut

Death toll rises to 14 in southern suburb of Beirut... Syria condemns act

Beirut, (SANA) - Lebanese National News Agency announced that the death toll of the terrorist bombing in the southern suburb of Beirut rose to 14 , while 212 persons were injured.

The agency stated that the bodies of 10 martyrs in addition to 42 wounded persons were admitted to al-Sahel hospital, while four other bodies, among them 3 women and 100 injured were admitted to al-Aazam Prophet Hospital.

Initial reports said that the terrorist explosion claimed the lives of 3 martyrs, while more than 20 citizens were injured.

The Agency said that the bombing took place in al-Rwais area near Mahfouz shops in the southern suburb of Beirut.

It pointed out that the terrorist bombing caused a fire to a number of residential buildings on the main road linking Ba'r al-Abid with al-Rwais, home to several commercial shops.

For its part, the Lebanese army announced that a booby-trapped car was behind the terrorist explosion which took place in the southern suburb of Beirut.

Syria condemns the coward act

Minister of Information Omran al-Zoubi described the terrorist crime in Beirut Southern suburb as a coward act in the service of the Israeli enemy.

"Syria strongly condemns that coward act and offers condolences to the families of victims and hopes quick recovery for the wounded," the Minister said in a statement.

He added that the terrorist act in the southern suburb offers direct service to the Israeli enemy and the states which put themselves at their disposal.
