The 33rd Summit of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) is in its second day in Lilongwe, Malawi. The Summit and people of Malawi have welcomed Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe in the aftermath of the ZANU-PF landslide victory in the harmonized elections.
South Africa is commemorating the first anniversary of the killing of 24 miners at the Lonmin Marikana platinum mining facility in Rustenburg. The ruling African National Congress (ANC) along with the Congress of South African Trade Unions (COSATU) and the South African Communist Party (SACP) have all issued statements in honor of the tragic anniversary.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has assisted in the airlift of civilians displaced by the fighting in the Republic of South Sudan's Jonglei state.
Meanwhile, China and the Republic of Sudan are continuing and enhancing their long term fraternal relations in the areas of both economic and political affairs.
Finally, more victims have died in the worsening political and security crisis in the North African state of Egypt.
On Saturday security forces and their supporters surrounded and attacked a mosque where Muslim Brotherhood members were held up after threats of ever more killings and brutality.
