The Zimbabwe African National Union Patriotic Front (ZANU-PF) party has won the national elections in the Southern African state. Reports indicate that the party of President Robert Mugabe has taken over
two-thirds of the vote in the results released by the Electoral Commission.

Thousands again took to the streets in the North African state of Egypt to protest the overthrow of President Mohamed Morsi. Envoys from the African Union (AU) and the European Union (EU) paid visits to Egypt this week in efforts to end the political crisis.

Unrest and armed conflict has continued in the North African state of Libya. Although the imperialists waged war and overthrew Col. Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, the country has worsened from the days its was the leading state on the continent.

Finally, in the City of Detroit the second bankruptcy hearing was held on August 2 downtown. Members of the Moratorium NOW! Coalition joined retirees, workers and other activists in a picket outside the court
demanding debt cancellation and the maintenance of pensions, healthcare, city services and assets.
