The Heroes and Defence Forces holiday celebrations organising committee has said it is ready to stage massive celebrations as Zimbabwe honours it’s gallant sons and daughters who brought freedom and democracy. The head of the 21-member team under the Ministry of Local Government, Rural and Urban Development, Mr Alfred Tome, disclosed that they have since managed to raise the money needed to “hold successful celebrations.”
“Preparations for the main celebrations in Harare have been met with overwhelming support which has seen the Provincial Mobilisation Committee managing to raise the US$60 000 needed to stage these celebrations and more is expected to come.
“Last weekend we held a meeting with representatives from all the other provinces and they all reported that all the logistics are in place in their respective areas,” he said.
Mr Tome added that a wide range of activities have been lined up for both days as the committee seeks to stage celebrations befitting the sacrifices made by the heroes who fought for the country’s independence.
“These are very important holidays and we are fully prepared to roll out massive celebrations to commemorate these days. In Harare, at least 40 buses will be available to ferry people to the National Sports Stadium and to the Heroes’ Acre while similar arrangements have also been made in other provinces.
“I strongly urge all patriotic Zimbabweans to put their political differences aside and come to celebrate these two very important days where we remember the gallant fighters of the revolutionary struggle,” he said.
A variety of activities have been lined up for the festivities to entertain the thousands of people expected at the events.
