Four Zimbabwean contestants – Chiedza Ngwanda, Adeline Garden, Benenzela Mulalazi and Wadzanai Kanywa – will be representing the country at the Diamond Queen of Africa pageant scheduled for the Harare International Conference Centre tomorrow.

Spirits have been high since Monday, when the ladies got into camp at Pandhari Lodge from their respective countries.

There were street parades in the CBD, an appearance at the National Sports Stadium for the Defence Forces Day celebrations.

According to their show’s programme there will be a hive of activities until the day of the pageant.

Meanwhile, 2012 Miss Curvy Mildred Shumba (19) will be missing from the newly improved Diamond Queen of Africa.

“I will not be participating in the pageant for personal reasons. I am not aware of any developments there since I stepped down in June.

“My reasons are personal. I have not quit modelling. I might do a bit of it in future.

“I wish the finalists well,” she said

The curvaceous teen was crowned Miss Curvy last year at a colourful ceremony at the Rainbow Towers. Hailing from Mberengwa, she beat other contenders to emerge the queen. It’s a shame, however, that it will not be known if she was going to be strong enough to remain the last girl standing against regional contestants.

Five winners shall be crowned on the night of the pageant and the Diamond Queen of Africa will be the most superior.

In an interview last week, pageant founder Mercy Mushaninga said the queen would receive US$3 000 while the princesses would win US$1 000 each.

The main sponsor of the pageant is Delta Beverages with their Redds Brand.
