Detroit is often spoken of as the epicenter of the United States economic crisis. The city provides both a stark mirror of modern day capitalism but also the social antecedents of a way out of the existing domination by a ever increasing desperate ruling class.
This broadcast features a few of the statements delivered at the two day event held in Grand Circus Park in downtown Detroit on October 5 & 6. Over three hundred organizations and individuals endorsed the gathering which sought to place the blame for the economic crisis squarely on the banks and corporations.
One of the high points of the Assembly was the march on the penthouse of Kevyn Orr, the hired-gun for the rapacious system of municipal dictatorship at the aegis of the same banks who have driven the city into financial ruin.
During the course of the two days of speeches, workshops, cultural presentations and demonstrations the need to surround the federal courthouse on October 23 for the opening day of the trial on the eligibility of the illegal bankruptcy filing carried out by the bank-imposed emergency management regime was emphasized.
Much of the gathering was streamed and videotaped. The contexts of the recorded messages should be circulated broadly.
