Sweden’s ambassador to Zimbabwe Mr Lars Ronnas yesterday paid a courtesy call on Vice President Joice Mujuru at her Munhumutapa Offices where he pledged to enhance relations between Harare and Stockholm.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Mr Ronnas said relations between Zimbabwe and Sweden were cordial.

He said Sweden was ready to work with Zimbabwe and the country was waiting to see how the new Government would implement its policies.

“We look forward to the Government’s plans and how they will be implemented and the reforms and progress made in the past few years,” he said.

Mr Ronnas said his country collaborated with Zimbabwe in many ways.

“We are always co-operating with Zimbabwe,” he said. “We are providing some US$30 million each year to Zimbabwe in the field of education, health to child protection.”

He said Stockholm channelled its support to Zimbabwe through the United Nations agencies.

“We work primarily through multi-lateral institutions like Unicef and UNFPA. These are our common bodies.

“The United Nations belongs to all of us so we work through them in co-operating and in supporting not only social challenges in your country.”

Mr Ronnas presented his letters of credence to President Mugabe in February.
