Peace-keeping: Police deploy 400 personnel in Sudan, Liberia

The Nigeria Police Force on Tuesday deployed three contingents of the Formed Police Unit made up of 400 personnel to Sudan and Liberia in support of the United Nations mission in Liberia and the African Union – United Nations’ Hybrid operation in Dafur.
The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Abubakar, who addressed the men at the Force Headquarters parade ground in Abuja, tasked them to be good ambassadors of the police and the nation.
He said that Nigeria police contingents were currently on international peacekeeping assignments in nine countries, including Cote D’voire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Guinea Bissau, Haiti, Liberia, Sierra-Leone, Somalia, South Sudan and Sudan.
The IG assured the contingents that the police authorities had made ample provision for their welfare, material and logistics support and charged them to be focused and to “avoid cutting corners.”
The high point of the occasion was the tactical demonstration by the contingents on operational skills and tactics on crowd and riots control and other ancillary policing strategies in line with global best practices in policing and the UN standards.
In attendance at the demonstration exercise by the contingents were the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Mr. Rof Ree, members of the Police Management Team, Senior Police and Military Officers, including the Nigeria Defence Attachee to China, Brig. General Aliyu, and members of the Diplomatic Corps.
Meanwhile, the Comptroller-General of Immigration, David Padarang has raised the alarm over the activities of fraudsters who cloned his email and set up a fake Facebook account in his name through which they had been defrauding the public by soliciting money from them in return for job placements with the Nigerian Immigration Service.
A statement by the NIS Public Relations Officer, Emeka Obua asked Nigerians to be wary of the criminals, stressing that the CG has not mandated anyone to solicit for money on behalf of the NIS.
