Sudan, S. Sudan Joint Security Committee Meets Tuesday
Zuleikha Abdul Raziq
Khartoum – The Joint Security Committee between Sudan and South Sudan will hold its fifth meeting on Tuesday in Juba and the meeting will be co-chaired by the Directors of Intelligence in the two countries.
Dr. Al-Muiz Farouq, rapporteur of the Committee told Sudan Vision yesterday that the meeting will discuss the outcome of the previous meeting and will assess the content of the memorandum of understanding on cooperation and non-aggression especially with regard to support for and sheltering of armed rebel groups.
Farouq said the meeting will discuss future plan for cooperation between Khartoum and Juba in the security and military fields along the border, and expected the meeting to activate work of the joint teams. He also anticipated the meeting to come up with positive results to contribute toward the implementation of the joint cooperation agreement.
Meanwhile, a high level source revealed to the newspaper ongoing consultations between Khartoum and Juba to hold a workshop to discuss the difficulties and obstacles hampering the determination of the zero line of the border between the two countries. The source added that efforts are continuing to determine the time and venue of the workshop proposed by the African Union which is expected to be attended by national and African experts.
Consultations are also continuing to finalize the work before mid November in order to meet the deadline set by Presidents Al Bashir and Salva Kiir, the source said.
In the same vein, director of the Directorate of South Sudan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Badreldin Abdallah, said the map which determines the zero line has been agreed upon and only landmarks remain to be done. In the past South Sudan obstructed the work of the team on the ground but now an agreement is reached between the two Presidents during their recent summit meeting in Juba.
