With the 10 days of mourning the death of Nelson Mandela over, the ANC in the province has thanked everyone for their participation.

Party provincial spokesperson Sipho Dikgale said yesterday: “On behalf of the ANC-Limpopo, I hereby convey my immense appreciation to all people of Limpopo province, members and supporters of the ANC who showed sympathy and solidarity with the Mandelas and the ANC as we mourn, celebrate and bury the African giant, the former president of the ANC and the country.”

He was saying this as the country was spending Reconciliation Day yesterday just a day after the burial of Mandela in his ancestral hometown Qunu.

“The ANC wishes to particularly thank the provincial government, municipalities and the entire leadership of the province,” Dikgale said.

He said the participation of the provincial legislature, members of professional fraternities, non-governmental organisations, business sectors, faith-based organisations and ordinary people who either travelled to Qunu for the burial ceremony or commiserated with the family in other ways, was not unnoticed.

“I pray that God Almighty will bless and reward everyone for their love, kindness and sympathy which has helped to assuage the grief and pain over the loss of our beloved comrade, freedom fighter and grandfather,” he said.

Mandela died on December 5 after a long illness and was given a state funeral that also saw members of the public being allowed to see his body lying in state at the Union Buildings in Pretoria for three days.

Both his memorial service at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg earlier and his funeral on Sunday were attended by heads of state, monarchs and other international dignitaries, among others.
