Another reshuffle at Egypt's trade union federation

'One of the reasons for the reshuffle is related to corruption', says board member Sahar Othman

Egypt's trade union federation has witnessed its forth board of directors reshuffle since 2010, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported.

According to board member Sahar Othman only three senior positions at the federation (head, general-secretary and treasurer) were changed.

"One of the reasons for the reshuffle is related to corruption," saidOthman, who declined to give further details before an official statement is released.

The federation's administrative committee agreed to the reshuffle earlier this month, Othman said. A request was then submitted to the manpower ministry for approval.

The committee named Gebali El-Maraghi as the federation's new head to replace Abdel-Fattah Ibrahim, who become the deputy head.

El-Maraghi was the federation's head from 2012 until he was dismissed in September 2013 along with several other board members accused of supporting ousted president Mohamed Morsi.

Responding to local media reports that Manpower Minister Kamal Abu-Eita had sacked the federation's administration, the ministry told Ahram Online on Monday that it did not have the authority to impeach the federation's board.
