Fresh gunbattle between Government Forces and Al Shabab militia in Middle Shabelle province

Somali Government Officials said on Wednesday that they have repulsed fresh attack from the Al Qaeda-linked fighters in the Somalia’s Middle Shabelle province late on Tuesday killing at least eight, RBC Radio reports.
The fighting broke out in the town of Mahaday, a strategic town in the region where fighters of Al Shabab attacked and seized part of it, according to local sources in the town.
The local sources added that heavy gunfire were heard in the overnight as the military group also attached a nearby town called Buurane where they have destroyed a government military-owned facility there.
Somali Military officer in the town Col. Hassan Osman said today that the town has been secured and the fighters of Al Shabab were defeated.
“The town is now secure and there are not any fighters here. We have defeated.” Col Osman added.
He said he can confirm five bodies of Al Shabab fighters were lying in the town this morning.
“The situation is now calm. Business is on again.” he added.
The African Union Troops [AMISOM] have participated in the battle which lasted in the overnight on Tuesday.
Pro-Al Shabab website reported that the militant group took control of the town for several hours seizing stores of weapons and food for the government forces.
