Republic of Sudan President Omar Hassan al-Bashir has said in an address that historically western colonization sought to eradicate Islam from the African continent. Meanwhile mediators from several East African states have met with the ousted South Sudanese Vice-President Riek Machar in efforts to reach a ceasefire in the fighting inside the country.
A report emanating from Egypt indicates that military strongman General Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi may seek presidential office later in the year. El-Sisi led a military seizure of power on July 3 of last year overthrowing the elected Muslim Brotherhood President Mohamed Morsi.
There has been continuing unrest inside the Central African Republic in the aftermath of the removal of interim President Michel Djotodia. Clashes in the capital of Bangui have led to additional deaths while the International Organization of Migration (IOM) is preparing to evacuate thousands of foreign nationals from the country.
Finally, at least 13 people were killed and six others injured in the southwest Libyan city of Sabha due to factional fighting. The clashes are reportedly related to the recent deaths of a deputy rebel commander in the area which has been designated as a military zone by the neo-colonial regime in Tripoli.
