GAROWE, Somalia Feb.1, 2014 (Garowe Online)- Abdirizak Haji Hussein, former Somalia Prime Minister from 1964 to 1967 under the incumbency of the country's first president Adan Abdulle Osman has on Saturday died of pneumonia complications according to his relatives at the age of 89, Garowe Online reports.
Sources close to his family says, Hussein was hospitalized last week and succumbed to his ailing health at a medical center in the US's Minneapolis city.
In his last interview with the Somali Media, late former Prime Minister told that Federal Government of Somalia took a step forward but failed to lead the war-ravaged horn of Africa nation to the path to recovery.
Hussein served in different administrative capacities in the pre-civil war governments as he separately became Interior and Public housing Ministers during 1960s before former dictator Mohamed Siyad Barre came to power in 1969 following bloodless military coup.
Barre placed him in detention and later appointed as Somalia's ambassador to the United Nations in 1975.
Though he spent much of the last two decades of chaos as asylum seeker in the United States after armed opposition groups toppled the country's longstanding military government in 1991,Being an active member in the defunct Somali Youth League made Hussein a national hero and patriotic among the Somali public.
