African Union (AU) leaders in their recent summit said that a proposed AU-European Union (EU) summit cannot take place without the participation of the Southern African nation of Zimbabwe.

Zimbabwe was elected as the deputy chair of the AU at their recent summit in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.

AU Summit participants at their recent gathering in Ethiopia called for the ending of the trials of African leaders by the Netherlands-based International Criminal Court (ICC). The president and vice-president of Kenya are both under indictment by the ICC.

African National Congress (ANC) officials have dismissed the candidacy of Dr. Mamphele Ramphele for the white-dominated Democratic Alliance opposition party in South Africa. Ramphele, whose own recently-formed party, Agang, collapsed as she has been recruited to run for president against the ANC, the vanguard of the liberation struggle in South Africa.

Finally, the newly-elected president of the Central African Republic has pledged to protect the lives and well-being of the minority Muslim population inside the country. Meanwhile, the European Union is pledging to deploy even more troops to this troubled state where France and its allies are occupying.
