Former army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi submits to the PEC on Monday all required eligibility documents for his candidacy

With over 200,000 recommendation forms submitted to the Presidential Elections Commission (PEC), former army chief Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi became on Monday the first potential presidential candidate to complete all required paperwork for electoral eligibility, as reported on national TV.

According to the TV report, Mohamed Bahaa Abu Shoka, El-Sisi's presidential campaign legal adviser and leading Wafd Party member, headed to the PEC headquarters in Cairo where he presented the recommendation forms and all other necessary documents, including health reports, required for El-Sisi's eligible candidacy.

The campaign stated it had submitted more than 200,000 recommendation forms signed by citizens backing the former army chief as president.

The Egyptian Constitution stipulates that each presidential candidate gather at least 25,000 recommendation forms to become eligible to run in the presidential race.

Egypt's imminent presidential elections are scheduled for 26-27 May.
