This broadcast continues the commemoration of the fiftieth anniversary of the events of Freedom Summer in 1964. We play an audio documentary highlighting the role of the people of the South during this important period in United States and world history.

The origins of the Pan-African Journal extend back to January 1999 when the program first appeared on an African American formatted radio station in the Detroit area. Azikiwe has maintained a radio, newspaper and television presence consistently over the decades.

In addition to the Pan-African News Wire segment of the program there is also a tribute to Bobby Womack, the legendary gospel, soul artist and producer who made his transition on June 27.
