Workers of the FPSO Kwame Nkrumah have called-off their industrial action meant to protest poor conditions of service.
The decision to call-off the strike was premised on a meeting held between the General Transport Petroleum and Chemical Workers Union (GTPCWU) and their employers, MODEC Ghana Limited.
A press release by the Petroleum Commission which facilitated the meeting said “after extensive deliberations, both parties have agreed to a Memorandum of Understanding pending the resolution of the issues.”
As part of the agreement reached, the two parties committed to the following resolution:
that GTPCWU will use its offices to inform the affected union members to disembark the FPSO and convene on the November, 3 at an agreed venue to be debriefed by both Management and the Union on this roadmap.
Other resolutions reached between the parties said “the workers will be relieved by their “Back-to-Backs” and normal crew change restored in line with the current rotation.
Also, the workers will remain employees of MODEC Ghana and will continue to enjoy all the existing conditions of service.
The release said the Standing Negotiation Committee will commence discussions from November, 7 on the proposed salary structure and career progression and conclude the Collective Agreement subsequently.
“The parties have by the MOU, given their full commitment to work together as social partners for their mutual interest and to maintain industrial peace and harmony at the workplace,” the release said.
