SACP Welcomes Debate on Matters Affecting the Working Class: Initial Response to Comrade Zwelinzima Vavi
17 December 2014
The SACP has received and noted an open letter by Comrade Zwelinzima, titled "A response to Comrade Jeremy Cronin and an open letter to leaders and members of the South African Communist Party (SACP)". The SACP welcomes open debate on the matters affecting the workers and the working class in general.
The SACP will study the letter and respond comprehensively in due course, taking into account the fact that the contents of the open letter represents Comrade Vavi`s own personal views and not those of Cosatu. A number of points and views contained in the open letter are also in contradiction and at variance with some of the perspectives we have recently shared and agreed upon with the National Office Bearers of Cosatu in the last three bilateral meetings between the SACP and Cosatu over the last few months. In addition, and incidentally, Comrade Vavi conveniently found excuses not to be part of these last three meetings between the SACP and Cosatu.
Our response will therefore be comprehensive, and will distinguish between personal views including his own views expressed, as stated in the letter, "as a member of the SACP", from the views of Cosatu and those of the SACP.
