Sameh Shoukry discussed with the Saudi FM the latest developments in the region, particularly Yemen

Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry arrived to Saudi Arabia late Monday for a short visit, the ministry of foreign affairs announced in a statement.

Shoukry met Saudi Foreign Minister Saud El-Faisal during his short visit to Riyadh, where they discussed the latest developments in the region, particularly the conflict in Yemen.

Egypt is participating in the Saudi-led military operation in Yemen against Houthi rebels who are in control of the capital Sanaa.

Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry is going to meet U.S Secretary of State John Kerry and Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Gouda in New York on 26 April to discuss the latest developments in Yemen.

Shoukry and El-Faisal's talks also included an evaluation of the Geneva interim agreement on the Iranian nuclear program as well as Iranian policies in the region.

The ministers also discussed the establishment of an Arab joint military force, which was initially talked about in a recent Arab summit.

On Wednesday there will be a meeting of Arab chiefs of staff at the Arab League headquarters in Cairo to further discuss the issue of establishing an Arab military force after a preliminary meeting earlier this month in Riyadh.
