SACP Statement on World Teachers` Day
5 October 2016

The South African Communist Party (SACP) expresses its message of sincere gratitude to all teachers in South Africa in particular and the world in general on this day, the World Teachers` Day, for the crucial contribution that teachers make to education and human development!

The SACP pledges its revolutionary solidarity particularly with the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu) on the challenges that the union has come across and its efforts to overcome those challenges. This includes the so-called jobs-for-cash that became synonymous with a campaign by reactionary quarters to liquidate the union. The Party will not fold its arms and sit back whilst other forces are engaging in attempts at destroying Sadtu and the rest of the progressive trade union movement!

This year`s World Teachers` Day coincides with the 17th World Federation of Trade Unions (WFTU) international congress, the first World Trade Union Congress to be held on the African soil, Durban, South Africa. The SACP wishes to welcome all delegates who travelled from across the world to attend the congress. We wish the congress a success.

The SACP says:

"Workers of the world unite!"
