Somalia: Security Forces Are Investigating Car Bomb in Mogadishu

The explosives-laden car exploded outside the Hooyooyinka Building near the Presidential Compound.

MOGADISHU (Somali Update Online) — Security forces are reportedly probing a car bomb in Mogadishu today as the residents in the capital are celebrating the Somali Youth Day, Somali Update reports.

The explosives-laden car exploded outside the Hooyooyinka Building near the Presidential Compound as eyewitnesses confirmed there was no any casualty because of security forces alerted the public before it exploded.

According to Somalia’s Information Minister Abdirahman Omar Osman Yarisow, the security forces apprehended several suspects perceived to be Al-Shabab operatives in connection with the car blast.

The minister added that security officials opened a full investigation into the target of the attack.

The blast outside Hooyooyinka Building happened as President Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo and government ministers were celebrating with Mogadishu residents on Monday marking the 74th anniversary of Somali Youth Day on May 15th.

As usual, the security in the capital has been tightened ahead of the Monday’s celebrations but according to Minister Yarisow, there were reports of possible Al-Shabab attack in Mogadishu during the occasion and that security agencies dealt with that report accordingly to prevent from a deadly attack.
