US Is Chiefly to Blame for Tense Situation of Korean Peninsula
The chieftain driving the situation of the Korean peninsula to the point of explosion is none other than the US which poses extreme nuclear threat and blackmail to the DPRK by conducting war exercises one after another near the peninsula with huge nuclear strategic assets involved.
The DPRK permanent representative to the UN Office and international organizations in Geneva stressed this in his speech at the plenary session of the third Geneva disarmament meeting on August 29.
The long-term hostile policy of the US and its daily increasing nuclear threats to the DPRK have forced the latter to have access to a nuclear deterrence and steadily bolster it to cope with them, he said, and went on:
The US-south Korea joint military exercises staged in south Korea every year assume an aggressive and provocative nature and they increase the danger of a nuclear war on the Korean peninsula and endanger the peace and security in the region and the world.
In March this year, we demanded that an emergency meeting of the UN Security Council be convened to discuss the issue of the US-south Korea joint military exercises.
The UNSC declined the DPRK's repeated requests. This is self-exposure of the fact that it has been reduced into the valueless puppet and political tool serving the US, away from its basic mission for ensuring international peace and security.
Now that the US openly revealed its hostile attempt at the DPRK while staging joint military exercises for aggression despite the strong warnings of the DPRK, it becomes full-fledged exercise of the right to self-defense for the DPRK to take strong countermeasure, and the blame for the ensuing catastrophic consequences will rest with the US which opted for military confrontation with the DPRK.
The DPRK will never put the nuclear deterrence for self-defense on the negotiating table nor will take even an inch backward from the path of bolstering up the country's nuclear force chosen by it as long as the US hostile policy and nuclear threats to the DPRK continue, he emphasized.
