Russian Bombers Pound Daesh Positions in Syria’s Dayr al-Zawr Again

The Russian military says six of its Tupolev Tu-22M3 long-range bombers have once again successfully launched airstrikes against positions of the Daesh Takfiri terrorist group in Syria’s eastern province of Dayr al-Zawr as government forces, supported by allied fighters from popular defense groups, are fighting to totally retake the region from the terrorists.
According to a statement by the Russian Defense Ministry, the large bombers, which flew from an airfield in Russia, hit “terrorist strongholds” in the valley of the Euphrates River in the volatile province.
The airstrikes came a day after a similar attack the Russian bombers carried out in the same province against Daesh’s fortified areas, manpower and armored vehicles near Abbas town, which lies northwest of the recently-liberated Bukamal town and near the border with Iraq.
On November 17, six Tupolev-22M3 bombers left an air base in Russia, crossed over the Iranian and Iraqi airspace and carried out a massive airstrike against the Daesh positions near Bukamal.
For the past few weeks, Russian long-range bombers have been continually pounding the terror outfit’s positions in Dayr al-Zawr, paving the way for Syrian ground troops to advance more swiftly towards the last militant-held areas in the region.
On September 22, a Russian submarine launched a barrage of Kalibr cruise missiles at the positions of the foreign-sponsored and Takfiri terrorists of Jabhat Fatah al-Sham, previously known as the Nusra Front, in Syria’s Idlib and destroyed them only a few days after the extremists attacked a unit of the Russian Military Police in the crisis-hit Arab country.
Since September 2015, Russia has been conducting aerial attacks against terrorist positions in Syria at a request from the Damascus government.
Backed by Russian air power, Syrian ground forces have managed to make numerous gains against terrorists on various fronts.
On the contrary, the US and its allies back militants fighting to topple the Syrian government. American warplanes have been bombing Syria since September 2014 without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate, which has seriously damaged the country's infrastructure.
The airstrikes have on many occasions resulted in civilian casualties and failed to fulfill their declared aim of countering terrorism.
