There are reports that Edward Snowden, the former contract employee for the National Security Agency (NSA), has left Hong Kong for Russia. Snowden was recently indicted by the United States Department of Justice on espionage and theft charges.
Snowden indicates that massive worldwide spying is being coordinated by U.S. intelligence.
The attacks on the United Nations headquarters in Somalia has largely shattered the widespread propaganda that peace and stability has returned to the Horn of Africa state.
Meanwhile Kenyan police say they have seized a truck full of explosives that may have been headed for Somalia.
Several civil society groups have opposed developments in Mali involving a peace settlement with the MNLA, a Tuareg separatist group.
In addition, there is controversy surrounding the establishment of a United Nations force. Some want to exclude Chad while Liberia is sending in troops.
Emerson Mnangwa, the Miniser of Defense for the Republic of Zimbabwe, has urged the Southern African Development Community (SADC) to take action against the Mozambique opposition group Renamo. Renamo, a former rebel group turned opposition party, has been involved in violent actions against the ruling party Frelimo.
